Play as Good as You Look, Nick!

This past week, the women fans of Manchester United have a new idol in the person of Nick Powell. No, certainly not because of his ability in playing football, since his name was rarely heard by the ears of football fans before Red Devils officially bought him for a fee of 6 million Pounds.
The reason is actually embarrassing - at least for me, as a girl who do love this kind of sport - but the fact is already very attached to this opinion created for women.
Yes, because of his outlook.

It has been very commonly heard that the main reason underlying a woman likes a certain football club is because of the fantastic face and physical appearance of the footballers. What a lame reason!

However, this time, I would be interested to discuss the United’s new recruits with the face and physical appearance which is, well, breathtaking.
Nick Powell is still 18 years old! I personally had just heard his name at the end of June, when it was reported that my favorite club was chasing an attacking midfielder from nowhere club, Crewe Alexandra. I was less interested, because the media was also more horrendous in transfer issue of a pearl of Asia, Shinji Kagawa, who underwent two successful seasons with Borussia Dortmund.

Then, Powell, was officially landed at Old Trafford on July 1, 2012. I started googling about him, well, I mean the picture. Photos that I found less obvious, so I flatly commented by writing: ohh.. him. So? Why so expensive?

I obviously think Powell is 'expensive'. When compared with the price of the former United midfielder's favorite fans from South Korea, Park Ji-sung, who valued a 4 million Pounds in 2005. Is currency really influenced year by year? I don’t know. Somehow, I am not an expert economist, not interested to discuss.
Then, on July 12, 2012, Sir Alex Ferguson introduced his two new recruits in the transfer market this summer, Kagawa and Powell. Finally, I saw clearly the face of the ‘popcorn’. Cute.

But the madness then appeared three days later. At that time, I saw one of my friends retweet Powell’s tweet (I did not follow his Twitter account at the time). Its contents was like this: And what ... what's wrong with my corsa stallion. Powell also put up the pic of an article which was said about his car, that was 'only' a Corsa, when compared with the United players whose cars were much more expensive such as Bentley, Range Rover and Lamborghini.

After finished reading it, I laughed out loud. This kid has a classy humor. I immediately followed him. Thought his humor became like a ‘god’ when the next day he tweeted : "No. Its parking them there Bentleys next to #stallioncorsa". That responded to his tweet the day before and the response to the article that seemed mocking. However, with a confident, Powell responded with that twit! : D

It was not just me who like the owner of number 25. My friends at @ indomanutd, also picked up on the craze: @rynagiggs, @shantyadhitya @lisadepe and @cuzziiii. Ryna even made a name for the 'fans' of the new “popcorn”, namely Powell Rangers!
We are happy that there is a good-looking player at United. But, I do not want it marginalize us as football fans, not because of the look of the player.
If seen from the videos, the quality of players who was born on March 23, 1994 was quite promising. But, it is not needed to compare from the video if the quality is not seen directly.

According to my amateur eyes, tall-physique will be able to help the team when there are many long passes or in response to a free kick or corner kick. As long as there is still a figure of Paul Scholes, Powell can request for a tutor from the midfield maestro.

Maybe next season it will still be rare opportunities for Powell as a starter, since United have stocks of attacking midfielder in his squad. However, if he can maximize the pre-season tour to South Africa and China, it is not possible to all women enjoy his face and good performance in 2012-13 season later.

Powell is still young, his career is still very long. I (and the United fans, of course) wish he could adapt to the style of United quickly. If looks can be compete with Beckham, but the performance is as bad as Bebe, what for?

Then, play as good as you look, Nick!
